Los Angeles International Airport is expecting another record-breaking season as millions of people try to get home or away for the holidays.
The 19-day holiday period began Dec. 15 and continues through Jan. 2. The busiest day of the season is expected to be Saturday, followed by Tuesday and then Wednesday. The slowest days are expected to be Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.
As for some travel tips, airport officials recommend travelers arrive two hours early for domestic flights and at least three hours before boarding time for international flights.
If you’re heading somewhere where winter weather could be a factor, you’re advised to check your flight status before heading to the airport.
At LAX on Friday, the majority of flights out of Los Angeles were on time, and officials said they were doing what they can do reduce congestion and delays.
LAX officials said they’ve halted construction in public areas around the airport until after the New Year on Jan. 4.
“If we get there, my family is waiting. We are going out to dinner, and that will make it all worth it — fingers crossed,” said rather optimistic traveler Matt Iseman.
An estimated 7.2 million of Southern Californians will drive to their holiday destinations.
